JJWC Committees

Fine Arts- The Fine Arts Committee works to promote the creative and performing arts and the role of women in the arts. Projects that fall under the Fine Arts committee include:

  • Designing the logo for Expo t-shirts.
  • Creating art through photography, painting, music, literature,poetry, drama and craft projects.
  • Support events at local museums.
  • Motivate youth to explore the arts.
  • Volunteer at the Rialto Theatre.
  • Decorations and signs for games (EXPO).

Conservation- The Conservation Committee establishes and implements environmental awareness programs. Conservation projects might include:

  • Maintaining garden at Easter Seals.
  • Participate in spring and fall plantings at Hospice, OCH and Forest Park Community Center.
  • Participate in Nike Reuse-A-Shoe program.
  • Continue collections for various agencies.
  • Support neighborhood beautification and park preservation efforts.
  • Organize two crafts (i.e. decorate small pumpkins (EXPO)).

Education- The Education Committee works to promote literacy, continuing education and the better understanding of learning disabilities. Education projects might include:

  • Participate in Joliet Reads by donating books.
  • Provide therapy aids to Easter Seals.
  • Participate in hearing program at Lockport High School.
  • Award scholarships to college students.
  • Establish volunteer reading programs at local schools.
  • Help tutor area students.
  • Games and prizes (EXPO).

Home Life- The Home Life Committee focus is on women's issues and family economics. It covers a compilation of programs from women, seniors to the homeless. Home Life projects might include:

  • Provide clothing, food and monetary donations to local shelters.
  • Host a self defense seminar.
  • Collect blankets to be distributed at local shelters.
  • Adopt a needy family.
  • Organize a garage sale for a fundraiser.
  • Organze and oversee cookie stations (EXPO).

Public & International Affairs- The Public & International Affairs Committee works to heighten community awareness of such critical issues as violence prevention, community safety, citizen responsibilities and the importance of community partnerships. Public & International Affairs Committee projects might include:

  • Participate in Take Back The Night.
  • Encourage voter registration within the clug and in the community.
  • Serve meals at Daybreak.
  • Obtain service-type vendors (i.e. library (EXPO)).

Health- The Health Committee focuses on community welfare, safety, health and fitness. Health projects might include:

  • Organize blood drives.
  • Organize car seat safety checks.
  • Organize participation on walks for causes.
  • Prepare Expo bags(gather coupons, small donations, etc.(EXPO)).

Publicity- The Publicity Committee works to inform the community about Club projects and upcoming events. Publicity projects might include:

  • Compile media book.
  • Submit press releases to local newspapers and radio stations about club events.
  • Design flyers and distribute.
  • Advertise in local newspapers.

Hospitality- The Hospitality Committee coordinates programs at general meetings and act as hostesses. Hospitality projects might include:

  • Selecting venues for monthly meetings.
  • Facilitating new members and making them feel comfortable at meetings.
  • Oversee food area.
